Sneak Peek: Duchess Kate Debuts Crops at 1851 Trust Roadshow

Friday, June 16, 2017

Kate is at the 1851 Trust's Roadshow today in London. She is wearing a variation on her ensemble from Canada, but she has added a new piece. Kate's Closet has found the nautically themed crops that Kate has debuted and they are J.Crew!

Ful post tonight!

  1. I'll wait for the full post to comment in depth but I'm super excited about these trousers! They look amazing on her.

    1. I agree! It's been wonderful to see her start to branch out to new "uniforms"

    2. I agree but why are they so tight? She must be between two (tiny) sizes and always chooses smaller. She should choose the "larger" one and have them tailored accordingly.

So that makes it look to me, that she's wearing a youthful pair of sailor trousers that barely fit her anymore.

I loved the top and blazer but the shoes were out of place too. IMO. And I question the wisdom of a sailing engagement after Ainslie's debacle and in such troubling times.

    3. Youthful pants?? You sound like Kate's trying to wear something too young for her. These pants are definitely not too young for her.

    4. They are snug, anon 2:40. She could have gone up a size. I don't hate the shoes.

    5. I posted a main comment but it seems to have gone missing. So, I'll do a reply instead. I love the outfit, hate the shoes.

      She looks great!

    6. I don't hate the shoes either Faith but I'm not sure they work with the nautical feel of the outfit. And aren't they tan, maroon, and black? They looked nice with black pants in Canada but blue? Regardless, I was happy to finally see Kate in a different trouser style!

Wearing nautical-style trousers to a sailing event is a bit too formulaic for my taste as was wearing lots of batik in India. But I'm just glad she wasn't wearing jeggings that needed constant tugging and adjusting. The length seems a little short though compared to the length on models wearing the same item. (While Kate is tall, models are typically taller also.) And the tightness through the hip/thigh/seat area makes the pocket linings visible (also not seen on the models.) So I agree with Anon 2:40 going up a size (and tailoring down if necessary) might have helped. I guess Kate just likes tight trousers but these seem so tight in spots I'm surprised she could squat down without having a major clothing malfunction!

    7. I didn't mean it like that 325, I thought it was clear I meant because they're so snug the fit makes them look like something she's trying to still fit into. With a little more room to hang properly I think they would look perfect.

I don't hate the shoes just don't like them here, they scream autumn or winter to me, not June and definitely not nautical! A strappy sandal perhaps?

    8. The pants are made to be worn "snug"; it is a stretch fabric.

    9. I'm assuming Anon 2:40 meant youthful as she has owned them since her youth when she was skinnier...then now that she's more womanly or has gained some weight you can tell she isn't the size she used to be. BUT we know they're new.

    10. In the last post (her hospital visit) some believe she has gained weight. I think she has gained weight - she's still skinny, but she has put on some weight and is a little curvier (NOT a criticism). I wonder if she bought them at her "normal" size, or being a normal woman insisted on buying the size she thinks she should be not necessarily the size she is. Or she bought them before she gained weight. Another sign she is human :-)

    11. I too love the change up in pants here vs. skinny jeans but I think perhaps one size larger may have been nice. Then the pants might have not been quite so snug and might have hit lower on the leg like they did on the model. She, however, looks fresh and happy!

    12. I love to see her in trousers, she looks as young as she is, I agree one size larger would have been better they are too tight on the thighs.

  2. I love she wore pants other than skinny jeans!

  3. Thanks for the sneak peek ~ we all appreciate how busy your schedule is so the "heads up" is very nice!

  4. This confirms my belief that Kate would look beautiful in a trash bag. I hate the entire outfit and yet as I look at the photos I can't help but think how lovely she looks. She's a rare natural beauty.

    1. She truly is a natural beauty. Always so charismatic and radiant.

  5. She's clearly trying to switch things up, which I'm sure a lot of people appreciate. I especially love the earrings. (Are they new?)
She even manages to pull off those trousers and those shoes together, quite an unusual pairing for her!

    2. Kirsten if you look at that Kate's Clothes link Jane says the earrings are £20. However, if you check the Mirabelle site they are now £35!!! My guess is due to the "Kate effect". Sad, but good for them if people will pay extra.

I bought the earrings when they were 20£. They are nice and light but no way are they worth 35£.

    4. Thx everyone for the input! It's always fun when something that she wears is accessible to everyone. :)

  6. I agree with the others; yay for a change (trousers instead of skinny jeans!) But these did not fit her well.
And why crops? Otherwise good look. Glad she went to the event.
William and the Queen out and about giving condolences to fire victims also nice to see. Glad the royals spread out a bit:)

  7. Ahem...As per usual, when purchasing off-the-rack--or maybe, ordered too late to buy a better fit--this outfit doesn't do Kate any justice. Both trousers and the jacket-first-worn-in-BC, Canada, are too small by a size. Nor do the brown-toned shoes match her nautical navy/white outfit.

I do love those shoes--when paired with colours in the brown-green spectrum--otherwise, forget it.

I do like that, once again, Kate is without a clutch.

My overall impression is that Kate doesn't care much about fashion or that her father-in-law, Prince Charles, keeps both herself and her husband on a strict budget. (I'm still trying to forgive her parents for encouraging Kate to move into an apartment with William, at St. Andrews to the tune of some 100UKP per week!--they paid, after all, and I'm pretty sure they knew why--without providing Kate with at least a modest trust fund, upon her marriage into the generally accepted dysfunctional BRF, should the worst befall.

It's impossible to describe my horror re the fire at Grenfell Tower, which was all over the news where I live (central Canada). I watched as the fire quickly spread to higher floors, resembling a torch. My feeling is that the survivors and those who lost loved ones living there, and those who will require specialist care in burn units, deserve mega bucks--because, let's face it, this appears to be a wiring problem, not to mention a lack of a sprinkler system and a lack of any adequate fire alarm system. IF the Brits are enlightened enough, I would suggest a class action suit.

The horror of Grenfell Tower should signal a cautionary note to all of us, namely, to never move into a high-rise beyond a level where fire hoses can't reach--safer to pitch a tent!--or where those ladders with people baskets can't rescue you. And then there's the issue of the building cladding. This is a legal quagmire and could take several years to resolve.

It's akin to a nightmare, but this is not a reason why Kate should've dropped her previously scheduled visit to the Land Rover BAR Roadshow. the charitable arm of Ben Ainslie's 1851 Trust (sailing).-- She would've disappointed a lot of kids.

And I was relieved to read that William, Kate and Harry had contributed to the London Evening Standard;s Dispossed Fund, for those now left homeless by the Grenfell fire.

If ever there was a cause for PTSD, this is it, and I do hope that William, Kate and Harry follow-up in the years to come.

    So very sad.

    1. Oh please, drop this subject that Prince Charles is strict with Kate regarding her wardrobe. She constantly wears bespoke pieces and look at the budget she has ALREADY spent this year. Nonsense to think otherwise!

    2. Meant to say Dispossessed.

    3. I absolutely agree there is nothing "tight" about Kate's clothing budget; she routinely spends thousands of £££ on one-time wear dresses.

The press will call her "frugal" the minute she wears an item more than once.

  8. Her hair looks fabulous! The crops are so fun and appropriate for the occasion...they *are* a bit tight, but we know that's how she likes her pants so hey, why not? I love the entire outfit...the shoes aren't my favorite, but I appreciate her changing it up a bit. I'm just glad the dreaded wedges didn't make an appearance today! I've missed both Kate and your posts, Jane. Excited for the full post AND for Trooping the Colour tomorrow!

  9. She looks lovely but her trousers are just a little to tight to look really elegant

  10. She looks gorgeous, especially her hair! I used to have long hair like hers (though mine is red), and a good hair day always makes a person feel like a million bucks. Love that she's changing her casual uniform up, but a tiny part of me wishes she had gone with navy, white, or RED shoes!

  12. Those cropped pants are incredible!
Kate looks wonderful, beautifull happy and fresh, BUT how a badly proportioned garment can make legs as thin and long as the Duchess's look chubby is beyond me.

    Replies
    1. I think part of the chubby appearance is related to perspective-the views shot upward are not as flattering as those shot face on or from above. The lower half appearance will be exaggerated in an up-shot. I'm don't know why the photographers were crouching for the photos at this event. Usually, James Watling takes better photos of her. There are a few photos around shot from a better angle and she does not look nearly as thigh-heavy. Same for some of the fullness in her face. Angles, lighting, and expression. anon1

  13. I used to own these trousers and only wore them once - the fit is really funny, particularly around the hips, and I think that's why they look a bit off on Kate. I don't know enough about tailoring clothes to know if these could have been re-done to fit her better, or if she should have gone up a size and then come down, but I can say with certainty that they are an odd, unflattering fit. I think what she should have done when these arrived was return them and have one of the Buckingham Palace seamstresses or a designer she regularly works with create a similar pair for her...

  14. Kate looks lovely, but I wish the pants had been longer. I don't like cropped pants, so am a bit prejudiced, Kate can carry them off, but I do think they are unflattering. I'm glad this event wasn't cancelled, it would have disappointed the children. My heart goes out to all who have suffered so much loss. There are no words.
